This is pure personal anecdote. I haven't written anything in a while. Some time ago, people would pay me to write. Now I am doing this for myself and for the family business. This blog will contain some tutorials, some theory, and some history.

It feels good to express oneself with words. A thoughtfully-worded post can be a refreshing break from the images and videos that clutter our ubiquitous feeds. This feed will be simple. You can use RSS if you're into that, and if you're into that you don't need a tutorial. If you like the idea of a feed and don't care for social media, RSS still has its place.

\n

I'm rambling a bit. This is intentional. I want to put my thoughts down as quickly as possible—ninety words per minute. How? Dvorak.

Fiat currency is like a QWERTY keyboard. People know it too well. They know it like the back of their hand in the case of QWERTY, and like the contents of their hand for fiat money. We need to break this paradigm. No government has lasted forever, and subsequently, neither has an currency. History tells us that the dollar will eventually fail. I think we all realize this at some level, sort of how we all realize that there is a better way to type than QWERTY. What if it wasn't arranged like someone vomitted alphabet soup? What if we put the most used keys in the home row? It would be better, no?

The same can be said about money. What if we stopped taking stock in something that will inevetably fail, and instead turned towards something more technically suited to the digital age? It's an interesting idea, and and idea, to me, which still seems like the distant future; we have the technological means to abandon the dollar today. We won't do it the day this article is published. I can't be the only one that sees cryptocurrency as a futuristic thing which is more like science fiction than a reality. The late great Milton Friedman, to my knowledge, was the first to hypothesize cryptocurrency. In his 1992 book, Money Mischief, Dr. Friedman asks hypothetically whether computer bytes could become a monetary value:

The idea of cryptocurrencies is thus at least thirty-years-old. I was the first person I know to ever buy bitcoin. This was circa 2011. The idea had been put forth nearly twenty years prior, and I felt, at the time of purchase, that I was doing something completely strange.

\n

The whole cryptocurrency thing still seems strange to me. The idea that a significant portion of the company's revenue may come in the form of cryptocurrency still boggles my mind, and I'm the one who set it up that way.

\n

People often state that once something is posted to [insert social media site here], that it will never be deleted. This is true. The core idea of social media was about sharing and creating, with the permanance of it only considered years later. The permanance of blockchains and the cryptocurrencies they enable is fundamental to the software. Software which is, in a sense, an idea—much like social media. It exists in our minds just as it exists in the bits of a computer.

People say that cryptocurrency is imaginary money. All money is imaginary. Since the abandonment of the gold standard by these United States, it is truly imaginary. That considered, people seem to have less difficult time imagining units of tax payment than they have imagining what cryptocurrency could ultimately represent.
